Find out how technology has been applied in the industrial sector

More and more people have heard about industrial technology, especially with the advancement of Industry 4.0 in Brazil and worldwide. And it wouldn’t be any different, because the impact and influence of technologies, especially digital ones, on our way of living, working, and doing business has never been so felt.

The pandemic impacted all sectors of human life and social isolation brought to light a completely different reality from what was experienced until then – as a result, new technological sources gained more space and spread quickly, raising the need to adapt to the maximum. to the digital world.

However, thanks to investment in modern, effective, and efficient technologies, the sector has been recovering and making its way towards the digital future and production 4.0.

Want to know what these technologies are and how they work? Read on and learn more about it:

What is industrial technology?

Industrial technology is the set of knowledge (principles, tools, devices, etc.) from various areas applied to the industrial sector to make production more effective, faster, efficient, and productive.

These results are achieved through the practical application of this knowledge, often in the form of software and hardware that, together, work to optimize processes and maximize their potential – a process known as industrial automation.

Computers, robots, management systems, ERP’s and cutting machines are just some of the examples of applied industrial technology. Today the presence of technology is so broad that all industrial segments can benefit from investing in it.

However, a point of attention is the technological degree of each of these applications. Throughout its development, the industry went through several phases and, in each of them, industrial technology was present in its way.

A brief history of the use of technology in industries

Thinking about technology and industry leads us to imagine large robotic machines, super-smart equipment, sensors, and other devices that are part of the industry as we know it today.

However, if we think about the concept of technology, as mentioned before, the conclusion that is reached is that the beginnings of industrial technology date back to the First Industrial Revolution, in the 18th century.

Since that time, and especially since the invention of the steam engine, the application of knowledge to scale industrial productivity was already a reality. This is what we call Industry 1.0.

From there, industrial development went through two more phases – Industry 2.0, which marked the Second Industrial Revolution, in the 19th century, and Industry 3.0, in which the first computers and electronic devices were introduced, in the 1970s.

Today the industry is in a transition phase. Industry 4.0 is expanding, and with it, its principles – integration, automation, scalability, real-time, etc. In other words, we can say that we are at the height of industrial development and its technologies.

An overview of technology in the Brazilian industry

In Brazil, the industrial-technological scenario is heterogeneous. While investment in digitalization is emerging in the country’s industries, there is still a lot of difference in the profile and technological level between the segments and sizes of Brazilian industries.

In general, Industry 4.0 is advancing slowly here, and most industries are still adapting to the new production model or do not have the size, maturity, or resources to invest in automation 4.0.

What are the benefits of using industrial technology?

The positive effects that technology has added to industries are undeniable. Whether for its basic objective, to add value to the operation, or for the practical application of these technologies in the industrial context, we list below the main benefits of industrial technology:

Cost reduction

Producing more with less is a great challenge for companies that want to expand their business. Through technologies, or rather, through the application of technologies in the operation, it is possible to achieve this objective practically and efficiently.

This is because, by automating tasks, reworks, bottlenecks, waste, and other invisible costs that increase the final cost of the products are eliminated. In this way, it is possible to cheapen and expand production, resulting in more profits.

More productivity

Automated processes are, by essence, faster than manual processes. In clothing, for example, the technical stage (creation of molds and technical sheets) is usually done manually in more traditional industries.

However, by making the process automated, through specific industrial technologies, a degree of digitalization is reached that provides agility, practicality, and productive efficiency.

More precision and quality in processes of industrial technology

Thanks to standardization, characteristic of smart factories that, in a way, have automated technological processes, it is possible to adjust any process so that it is as accurate as possible – and replicate this quality for all products. The result is more accurate and higher-quality processes.

What is the importance of industrial technology in the clothing market?

As we said earlier, clothing has very specific characteristics – in addition to linearity in production (ie, each process is the result of the process performed previously), it is very common that some processes are still performed manually.

However, it is necessary to rethink the importance of technology in this context. Today, it is already possible to automate all stages of production – from the creative stage, through the technical part, cutting the fabrics and making the pieces.

And all these thanks to an industrial technology that, in the 4.0 production model, provides many benefits to clothing companies that invest in solutions that automate these processes.

The future is digital, and that is a certainty. Therefore, it is essential that clothing companies also update themselves in these processes to benefit from this digital transformation.

Industrial technology: discover the main innovations on the market

Now that you know about industrial technologies and how they work, here are some examples of them and their main characteristics:

Robotization

The direct influence of Industry 4.0, robotization is the process of using advanced machines – or super-intelligent – in the production line. This equipment is capable of operationalizing complex processes and automating them.

Artificial intelligence

Artificial intelligence (AI) is the science that aims to develop devices that have processing capacity similar to human intelligence, that is, the ability to collect, analyze, interpret and correlate complex information – and learn from it.

Machine Learning

Machine learning is precisely an indirect result of applying AI to devices, machines, and robots. We have a full article here on the Audaces blog on the subject – be sure to check it out!

Advanced manufacturing

We call advanced manufacturing (or smart manufacturing), products that go through advanced industrial processes and are the result of integration within a smart factory.

Cloud computing

Cloud computing is the principle of storing large amounts of data in the cloud. With this, it is possible to access information from anywhere, at any time.

This database is accessed by people and machines and serves as a database for the analysis and interpretation of information.

Internet of Things

Also called IoT (internet of things), the internet of things is a concept related to the integration of machines and devices in a large network of interactivity.

This network allows shared equipment to exchange strategic information with each other, making production much more efficient and technological.

Audaces 360

Finally, Audaces 360 is the most complete industrial technology in the world for the Fashion and Furniture Industry. Combining technologies such as AI, Cloud Computing, and other principles of Industry 4.0, the set of software allows integrated, end-to-end management for all manufacturing processes.
