However, if we think about the concept of technology, as mentioned before, the conclusion that is reached is that the beginnings of industrial technology date back to the First Industrial Revolution, in the 18th century. 

Since that time, and especially since the invention of the steam engine, the application of knowledge to scale industrial productivity was already a reality. This is what we call Industry 1.0. 

From there, industrial development went through two more phases – Industry 2.0, which marked the Second Industrial Revolution, in the 19th century, and Industry 3.0, in which the first computers and electronic devices were introduced, in the 1970s. 

Today the industry is in a transition phase. Industry 4.0 is expanding, and with it, its principles – integration, automation, scalability, real-time, etc. In other words, we can say that we are at the height of industrial development and its technologies.

In Brazil, the industrial-technological scenario is heterogeneous. While investment in digitalization is emerging in the country’s industries, there is still a lot of difference in the profile and technological level between the segments and sizes of Brazilian industries.
